From Geometric Patterns to Biophilic Art: A Natural Evolution
Remember Day 5 of our Geometric Pattern Challenge, when we explored the exciting mix of geometric shapes and natural forms?
I’m excited to take this concept even further by diving into biophilic art. This growing movement is all about going beyond just representing nature in our designs—it’s about embodying it.

What is Biophilic Art?
Biophilic art is a style that integrates natural patterns, shapes, and principles into design, making people feel more connected to nature. Think of things like:
Organic shapes: Soft, flowing lines and forms.
Nature’s color palette: Warm, earthy tones or cool, calming hues.
Botanical motifs: Leaves, trees, and floral elements.
Sustainable materials: Using eco-friendly materials in your work.
Why Biophilic Art is So Important in 2025
In today’s increasingly digital world, people are craving a stronger connection to nature. We’re no longer satisfied with just looking at pretty pictures of plants; we want art that helps us feel connected to the natural world, whether that’s through textures, colors, or patterns inspired by nature.

Where We’re Seeing Biophilic Art
Interior design: Wall art, textiles, and even furniture are incorporating natural shapes and textures.
Architecture: Buildings with living walls, natural lighting, and organic structures.
Fashion: Designs inspired by leaves, ferns, and other natural elements.
Biophilic art isn’t just a trend—it’s becoming a major part of how we design for the future, making spaces feel more alive and in tune with the environment.
How I’m Incorporating Biophilic Art into My Own Work
Lately, I’ve been deepening my interest in biophilic art through a personal project that builds on my past work. As part of my art course, Creating in a Series available on Skillshare, I’ve revisited a collection I began years ago. This time, I’m exploring the intersection of nature and design by illustrating perfume bottles that visually represent their natural ingredients. Each bottle is not just a container but a fusion of natural elements like botanicals, florals, and minerals. Some designs feature the internal essence of the perfume’s ingredients, while others show the bottle itself embraced by organic forms.
This project has allowed me to breathe new life into an old idea while aligning it with my current interest in biophilic art, which has been a rewarding way to explore how nature can blend with everyday objects.
How to Start Your Own Biophilic Art Journey
Want to try your hand at biophilic art? Here are a few simple ways to get started:
Observe Nature: Take a closer look at the patterns, textures, and colors you see in nature. There’s so much to learn from the world around us.
Document Inspiration: Start a nature journal, collect interesting leaves or stones, or snap photos of beautiful natural details.
Experiment: Try incorporating organic shapes or nature-inspired patterns into your work. Play around with textures or use eco-friendly materials.
